Indigenous Peoples of Texas
The Earliest Era of Texas History
Indigenous peoples were as smart, capable, cunning, brave, and varied as those who live and exist today.
This exhibit will introduce the early Indigenous people of Texas.
These earliest known inhabitants have lived in what would become Texas for tens of thousands of years.
The exhibit will discuss the customs and lifestyles of Native populations across early Texas.
Each Native group created communities, commerce, religions, norms, and customs, while challenged by the competing interests of other Native populations.
The climate changed. The landscape changed. The animals changed.
Food supplies and lifestyles were dramatically affected; the Native peoples had to adapt to the ever-shifting conditions that threatened their survival.
